Asher is the kind of horse that only comes around once in a lifetime. Standing big in size (17 hands) but even bigger in personality, he has a heart that’s impossible not to fall in love with.

If you’re someone who struggles with confidence in the saddle or those little voices of self-doubt creep in, Asher isn’t going to listen to them. Whether you’re having the best ride of your life or a full-blown panic attack, his priority is taking care of his rider. He is steady, kind, and genuinely wants his person to feel safe.

Waiting for you at the gate doesn’t even begin to describe him. Asher doesn’t just greet you, he needs to be where the people are. He thrives on attention and has more love to give than most people can imagine. If you’re looking for an independent horse that keeps to himself, he’s not your guy. If you’re looking for a giant, affectionate shadow who wants to be part of everything you do, you’ve found him. Think of him as a plus-sized emotional support animal.

His ground manners are second to none. Gentle doesn’t begin to describe him. He’s incredibly aware of where every one of his big feet are. You could stumble or fall in front of him, and he’d stop immediately, carefully avoiding you before lowering his head to gently nuzzle you as if to make sure you’re okay. It’s a level of kindness that’s hard to put into words until you’ve experienced it.

Asher has a way of melting hearts everywhere he goes. I’ve watched exhausted veterinarians and grumpy farriers turn into smiling, baby-talking softies who can’t resist rubbing his face and kissing his nose. He has a presence that naturally draws people in, and once you meet him, you’ll understand why.

There are good horses, there are great horses, and then there’s Asher. He’s the kind of horse that makes every day a little brighter simply because he’s in it.

Under saddle, Asher is every bit as exceptional as he is on the ground.

Mounting him couldn’t be easier. He will patiently stand to be mounted from just about anything—truck beds, picnic tables, lawn chairs, rocks, logs, or even the top of a Suburban. Simply snap your fingers, and he’ll calmly side pass over to you. If there isn’t anything nearby to climb on, give his belly a light tap with the end of your rein, and he’ll quietly lay down so you can climb aboard.

Asher is incredibly well broke and responsive to the lightest cues. He one-hand neck reins beautifully with or without a bridle and willingly moves off leg pressure. He side passes with ease, pivots on both his forehand and hindquarters, and has soft, balanced transitions.

Ask for an upward transition by taking a deep breath in and gently squeezing with both legs, and he’ll step willingly into a walk or trot. For the lope, simply inhale and apply your outside leg, and he’ll give you one of the softest, smoothest departures you’ll ever feel, especially for a horse of his size. To come back down, exhale, relax your legs, and he’ll quietly transition down without resistance.

Asher loves the word “whoa.” When said long and slow, he will come to a complete stop and stand quietly until asked to move again. He is exceptionally broke in the bridle and from the seat. He happily backs with little to no rein pressure by waving your legs in front of the cinch. 

He’s the kind of horse that feels like he’s reading your mind, making every ride enjoyable, confidence-inspiring, and effortless.

Asher has logged countless trail miles and has probably collected more than his fair share of cobwebs along the way. He is the definition of a dependable trail partner, confidently navigating water crossings, logs, steep hills, shallow ditches, and even those random rocks that seem to convince other horses they’re life-threatening. Nothing about the trail rattles him.

Whether you prefer to lead the group, ride in the middle, or bring up the rear, Asher is happy wherever you put him. He’ll pack saddle bags without complaint or happily carry a second rider in the backseat. He is also an outstanding confidence builder for young or inexperienced horses, whether he’s ponying them along or simply giving them a big, steady hind end to follow through new and challenging situations.

Traffic? Farm equipment? Urban trail riding? The neighborhood kid flying by on a dirt bike? None of it phases Asher. He takes it all in stride with the same quiet, level headed attitude he brings everywhere he goes.

If trail obstacles are your thing, Asher is in his element. He’ll side pass, back through, straddle, walk, trot, or lope over any log configuration you set in front of him. He confidently opens and closes gates and will willingly cross or walk through just about anything you can dream up—including tarps, kiddie pools, plastic bottles, bridges, pool noodles, cowboy curtains… and yes, even fire.

Asher approaches every obstacle with curiosity instead of concern. His confidence is contagious, making him the kind of horse that gives his rider the courage to try new things.

It’s hard to put into words just how versatile this gelding truly is. Every time we think we’ve found something new to ask of him, he quietly says, “Sure, I can do that.”

Asher drives both single and double and even has a few tricks up his sleeve. He’ll sit on a beanbag chair, stand proudly on a pedestal, and yes… he’ll even drink a beer right out of the can if you offer it to him. He drops his head for haltering and bridling, making it easy for even the kiddos to go grab him out of the pasture.

He loads into the trailer without hesitation, hauls quietly, and will stand tied to just about anything for as long as you ask. He’s kind to every horse he meets and can be turned out with anyone in our herd. In fact, he’s usually the first horse we introduce to a new arrival because we know he’ll set the tone.

Clippers, fly spray, swatting horse flies off his rump, baths, or a full spa day, Asher couldn’t care less. He genuinely enjoys being groomed and pampered. He has excellent feet and has always done well barefoot. If you choose to shoe him, he stands perfectly for the farrier, including hot shoeing.

Asher has been there and done that. He’s been hauled to horse fairs, organized trail rides, horse shows, parades, rodeo grand entries carrying the flag, and numerous obstacle trail challenges. No matter where he goes, he takes everything in stride and represents himself with the same quiet confidence.

And if costume classes are your thing, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better elephant than Asher.

Asher is the horse everyone hopes they’ll find but rarely ever does. He’s safe without being dull, broke without losing his personality, and versatile enough to excel at just about anything you ask of him. Whether you’re looking for a trustworthy trail partner, a family horse, a parade horse, a ranch partner, or simply a best friend with four legs, Asher is ready to be all of the above.
